On July 3.2018, Shanghai Jiaotong University
(SJTU) and Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJ) jointly held an
international seminar on "Public Policy and Social Governance
in the Context of Urban Renewal". The meeting was a bilateral
seminar between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Hebrew University
in Jerusalem, Israel.
Professor Zhong Yang, from School of International and Public Affairs
(SIPA), and professor Tamir Sheafer, School of Social Sciences,
HUJ, addressed opening statements, respectively. Subsequently, the
representatives of the both parties introduced the basic situation
of their respective departments and research centers. Scholars discussed
and exchanged views on urban environmental governance, local government
and public opinion, urban planning and urban transportation.
Prof. Geng Yong, dean of the School of Environmental Science and
Engineering, expounded the relationship between urban circular economy
and low-carbon development. Professor Wu Jiannan's theme focused
on the impact of government performance evaluation policies and
citizen participation on improving environmental performance in
China. Dr.Gillad Rosen's theme revolved around renewable urban planning.
Professor Zhong Yang gave a detailed case study on urban environmental
pollution and street protests in China. Professor Dan Miodownik
took Jerusalem as an example to analyze public opinion on urban
infrastructure. Dr. Emily Silerman and Dr. Shen Yang from SIPA gave
an account of the construction of children's facilities in the city
and the willingness of women to have a second child with a high
degree of education. Professor Wang Yu from SIPA took Shanghai as
an example to evaluate the carrying capacity of public services
in Shanghai Metro cities based on PSR method. Dr. Galit Cohen-Blankshtain
described Israel's positive rewards in transport management. Based
on case study of Wenzhou, China, Dr. Lu Tingting discussed the planning
of urban renewal projects and the choice of market tools. Dr. Alon
Eizenberg made an analysis of the retail price of the city.
Professor Zhong Yang and Professor Tamir Sheafer made concluding
remarks respectively. SJTU is the first Shanghai university to sign
a double degree agreement with HUJ, which aim to initiate an international
exchange program for master students. Both parties are all looking
forward to more in-depth cooperation between the two universities
in subject research and double degree running in the future. After
the joint seminar, HUJ scholars visited the School Museum of History
and Xuhui Campus.
